Jose M. Vega

Jose Vega is a retired 25-year veteran sergeant of the NYPD and a graduate of the 253rd Session of the FBI National Academy. For 19 years, he was assigned to the Disorder Control Unit which is the NYPD’s main public order unit.
Among Jose’s many responsibilities was the training of NYPD personnel on all facets of crowd control, as well as his real-time response to major protests and civil disturbance that provided tactical and logistical support to on-scene incident commanders. In 2016, Jose was promoted to Sergeant Special Assignment – a highly desired and valued acknowledgment bestowed upon high achieving members of the NYPD who are recognized for their performance and outstanding contributions.
Jose is a New State certified instructor and was one of unit’s lead designers for multi-agency training exercises that were consistent with the guidelines and standards set forth by the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP). He is recognized as one of the leading experts on public order in the country. Jose has provided frequent presentations regarding public order to numerous U.S. and international agencies.
Jose is currently employed by the Center of Domestic Preparedness where he routinely teaches their field force courses. He also serves on-staff to NY Blue Line Consulting Group, a company which provides law enforcement training and consulting services nationwide. Additionally, Jose sits on the National Institute of Justice Special Technical Committee for the standardization of training, tactics, and equipment related to crowd control in the U.S.
Jose is a graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree and he has completed the John Jay College NYPD Graduate Certificate Program.
