Thomas J. Conforti

          Thomas J. Conforti is a retired Assistant Chief from the New York City Police Department with a highly distinguished 30-year career. His record of accomplishments and professional endeavors reflects outstanding excellence and shows the profound impact that genuine dedication can have on the safety and well-being of a major city.

          Thomas joined the NYPD in 1992 and began his career on patrol in the 73rd Precinct, in Brooklyn N.Y. He held entry-level and mid management positions in the 43rd,104th, 110th, 109th, and 112th Precincts, the Bronx North Narcotics Division, Bronx South Narcotics Division, the Internal Affairs Bureau, and Detective Borough Queens North. After achieving executive status in the NYPD, Chief Conforti commanded the Crime Prevention Division, the Detective Bureau Central Investigations Division, the 109th and 112th Precincts, the Citified/Patrol Borough Queens North Specialty Units, and the Office of the Chief of Detectives. In October of 2019, he was elevated to the rank of Assistant Chief and became a member of the Police Commissioner’s Senior Executive Staff. As Assistant Chief, he served as the Commanding Officer of the Office of Public Information, Executive Officer Training Bureau, Executive Officer, Chief of Department and Commanding Officer of the Operations Bureau.

          Some notable highlights of retired Chief Conforti’s thirty-year career include the restructuring of the Detective Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Division, which included the Real Time Crime Center, Tactical Training Unit, and the Resource Allocation Unit. He was also responsible for re-imagining the Crime Stoppers Unit to leverage social media foremost in the unit’s mission. Also, while in that assignment, and as a response to the tragic line-of-duty-death of Detective Brian Simonsen, he oversaw the design and procurement of new lightweight bullet resistant vests for use by the five thousand members assigned to the Detective Bureau. In 2020, retired Assistant Chief Conforti was hand-chosen by the Police Commissioner to lead the N.Y.P.D.’s internal review of how the Department responded to and managed the civil disorder and protests associated with the George Floyd protests in May/June of that year. He subsequently produced a comprehensive report that included over fifty recommendations for improvement. Some of these recommendations were undertaken by Chief Conforti himself and included the re-training of the entire executive staff, re-training eleven thousand officers in disorder control training and the identification and procurement of officer safety equipment. In his final assignment as Commanding Officer of the N.Y.P.D. Operations Bureau, Chief Conforti tweaked already in-use computer platforms, to create a hyperlink feature in the Department-wide critical incident notification system, eliminating the need for duplication of efforts. Chief Conforti is an `outside-the-box-thinker’ who constantly exploits advancements in technology to increase the overall efficiency of an organization.

          Post-NYPD, retired Chief Conforti served as the Chief Investigator for the Queens County District Attorney’s Office. In 2022, he assisted the New Orleans Police Foundation with conducting a comprehensive review of police operational policy. In 2024, he assisted in conducting a similar review with the Memphis Police Department. Thomas also has an extensive history in leveraging his professional crime prevention knowledge and strategies in the private sector. He has a decade of experience working in the private sector for the Fortune 500 company BJ’s Wholesale. In his time there, he assisted the company in developing and implementing prevention and safety protocols and best practices. Most recently, he has been utilizing these same skills by providing the same insight to an additional Fortune 25 company.

          In the private sector, he is a trusted mind in loss prevention and safety to major companies. His creation of easy to reference emergency reference guides to direct adequate safety response to all employees is just one example of his innovative initiatives. Most recently, he leverages his existing relationships with law enforcement networks to provide current and accurate threat alerts to his current employer.

          Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from St. John’s University and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the Police Management Institute at Columbia University’s School of Business.

          Residing in Queens, NY his entire life, Thomas is married and has two children - Thomas Jr. and Kayla.
